it will be over soon - intercultural remote theatre version
The play ‘It will be over soon’ was originally created and performed by Hanaa Mansour's students in the "Better Together" drama club in Jabalia, Gaza in April 2024. (see the original version here) This blog post is by long term Hands up Project volunteer, Tere and it’s about how a group of children from around the world re-performed it as part of our intercultural remote theatre course in the summer. Over to you Tere!
Once upon a time, there was a happy family of young people who weren’t connected by blood but by their hearts. Some of them had never met before, and others lived in faraway countries such as Palestine, Taiwan, Argentina, Scotland, and England.
One day, they decided to combine their strengths, their talented voices, and a wonderful play they performed together.
“It will be over soon”
This happy family met every Saturday at The Hands Up Project house. There, they talked, shared their feelings, felt safe, and, little by little, their connection grew stronger and stronger.
Together, they overcame the fears that once haunted them. Together, they found the hope they needed to keep moving forward.
We are so proud of you. Despite facing internet connection issues, you never gave up. You gave your best, and it showed in every rehearsal as you kept improving again and again.
Congratulations to this dedicated family. We know we will meet again in the near future to show the world that we stand for peace, not war.
“It will be over soon”
We have prayed for it every single day.
