Ella's poem
This is Ella. She’s 11 years old and lives with her mum in Torquay, England by the sea. She likes music, animals, baking and writing. She’ll be starting secondary school in September. and would like to be a photographer or a journalist when she grows up.
On Saturday, with her mum, she came along to our stall on Totnes High Street when we were reading out poems by Palestinian children. She was so impressed that she decided to go home and write her own poem as a kind of response. And here it is…. Thank you Ella!
MY SCHOOL DAY
Gather around
Let me tell you a story,
Of my school life
In all its glory.
We start our day at 9.00 sharp,
Then we use our maths brain.
Division, subtraction, adding and multiplication
We work with our teachers
In all of their reign.
This is the moment our school day starts
Everyone is calling it the worst part!
Then we have break in our lovely playgrounds,
Adventure, football, basket ball, farm, field
Drama, love, action and sport.
Everything happens there that we care for
Now it’s back to class for English.
Everyone is complaining how we should get more break!
Now we have English, we write about a story,
of a picture we are shown at the front.
Eventually in the end we all love it,
And then it’s lunch, woohoo!
Lunch is a good time,
More talking for us.
Good school meals
or lunch packed by our family,
Everything is good.
Then we go outside, for a short time,
Then it’s back to class, where we could do anything!
RE, geography, history, French or more,
We could do any lesson,
But sometimes they’re like a chore.
On a Friday afternoon
We have an assembly,
To award us for good behaviour;
Witness of the week, awesome achiever, participation in sport and a reading award.
Then it’s finally the end of the day,
Normally I whisper hip hip hooray.
Then we get picked up,
I hope you liked My School Day
